Music Technology Lessons

Music technology lessons at HCM Music College are open to anyone who wants to learn how to use the latest technology to create music digitally.

Whether you’re an absolute beginner or have some experience in digital music production but want to improve your knowledge and technique, we can help children and adults aged 7+ to become budding producers, remixers, rappers and musicians. Lessons are held weekly at HCM Ware in either 30, 45 and 60 minute sessions and can be taken in individual or group formats.

How much Do music Technology lessons cost?

  • Group music technology lessons are £13 per student per lesson (charged by term) for a 45 minute session in groups of up to six students
  • Paired music technology lessons consisting of one teacher and two students are £13 per student per lesson for a 30 minute session.
  • One-on-one music technology lessons are £19.50 for a 30 minute session or £39 for a one hour session.


Music technology lessons at HCM are meticulously designed around your particular music production goals. The classes will cover a range of digital music techniques, genres and styles, and you’ll develop a wealth of technical, practical and theoretical knowledge in audio production, sound for media, electronic music production, mixing and mastering which you can apply to real-world scenarios. Over time you’ll become a confident user of both music production hardware and software, including Logic, Ableton and more.

  • The fundamentals of sound and recording
  • The music production process
  • Understanding recording and production equipment
  • Music production software
  • Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs)
  • Microphone types and placement
  • Venue acoustics
  • Mixing consoles
  • Software synths and MIDI
  • Samplers and audio looping
  • Audio recording, editing and mixing
  • Audio mastering


HCM music production students are encouraged to take part in our weekly band coaching lessons in addition to their music technology studies. These classes concentrate on performance techniques and teach you how to be a positive band member. Every week, you’ll make band music with students from other HCM music lessons, all with the aim of preparing for an exciting End of Term Concert performance.


At HCM, we like to see our students improve over time, so we offer RSL (Rockschool) graded instrument exams. Our music technology lessons follow the RSL (Rockschool) graded music production syllabus from Debut to Grade 8, and teenage students can complement these classes with other activities, such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme or GCSE Music.
