• The Level 2 Music Performance Diploma is suitable if you’re a passionate guitarist, bassist, vocalist, drummer and keyboard/piano player and love to play, but are open to improving your technique and skills as a musician and performer.

The Level 2 Music Performance Diploma is open to anyone with a love of music and a reasonable level of technical ability on your instrument. You don’t need to have studied music at GCSE level or have undertaken music theory, and you’re not required to have achieved a certain examination grade on your instrument or have had formal music lessons before. Entry for this course is not by audition, but you’ll be required to attend an initial interview before you enrol where you’ll be assessed on your chosen instrument.

Music diploma courses are free for UK and EU students aged 18 or under* and there are also funding options available for those aged 19+. If your GCSE grades in English and/or maths are a grade D(3) or below, you’ll be required to retake GCSE or Functional Skills English and/or maths at the same time as you study your Level 2 music qualification.

The course is fully accredited by Ofqual and the Department of Education, and is your opportunity to make music every day, so you can ultimately make music your career. It also allows you to retake your GCSEs in English and/or maths or Functional Skills while also studying music.

    What will I learn?

Each unit has been created to address the needs of the modern music industry, and you’ll study subjects including rehearsal skills, live performance, songwriting, music technology, sound reinforcement, DAW, music business, event management, and more. You’ll learn practical skills, like how to set up and use a live PA system, how to operate a mixing desk, and how to use digital music production platforms including Logic X and Ableton Pro. All your assessments will be based on coursework rather than exams.

    How will I learn?

The course has been designed to provide you with a broad introduction to the global contemporary music industry, specifically using a hands-on approach. You’ll learn about the music business through first-hand experience, with regular guest visits from some of the most exciting names in the music business, workshops with groundbreaking musicians, musical directors and music teachers, and enrichment trips touring professional recording studios and music suites. At the start of your studies, you’ll be asked for a small ‘enrichment fee’ contribution which helps to make the programme of subsidised music industry trips, activities and events we have planned for you possible. All our courses are taught ‘paper free’, meaning you get 24/7 online access to our course content from your home via the ‘cloud’.
